Philosophy of Education-Child Development

Each child grows and matures differently. It is my goal to create an entertaining, challenging learning environment. Children learn best in a nurturing, supportive, safe environment. My classroom should be organized in this manner. Students will learn in a student-centered environment easier than a teacher-center environment. Children need structure and rules to learn. Equality in the classroom is also pertinent.

The student's development plays a huge role in the child's learning. As a teacher, it is my goal to help the students met their needs to reach their highest potential. Social interaction with students will help children develop most skills. Lev Vygotsky would agree.  I will promote group activities and assignments to help children socially interact. Students should be taught to prepare them for life. Child development does not stop when children go to school, I am teaching these kids to be functioning members of society. My classroom will support Howard Gardner's findings regarding different learners. I will create lesson plans and activities to reach out to the eight intelligences found. Also, my content will be based around the third stage of Jean Piaget's concrete operational stage. This stage from ages seven to eleven, children can now conserve and think logically (they understand reversibility) but are limited to what they can physically manipulate. They are no longer egocentric. I will provide content for these students to develop on time and proficiently.
